Don’t Test Me…

I finally found out how those over 3000+ comments to be moderated ever get compiled and turn out to be more taxing on my RAM (since my browser hangs during the latter)!

It would seem that they are testing my blacklist, and see how many I can catch, since I am merely a human looking over these moderated comments and the comments spammers hiding behind machine automaticity. Even turning comment moderation off, and switching the commenting feature off didn’t stop them. :(

Damn you, idiots! Taxing me was a bad way to intimidate me, as well as compromise the integrity value of my hobby blog. I’ll show you.

Blacklists are a lost cause, there’s way too many ways to misspell words purposefully. I don’t even know why Wordpress bothers keeping the option in any longer.

Use Spam Karma 2 or Akismet. Of the two SK2 seems to have less problems with false positives but it’s not going to be maintained any longer (it’s hard to compete with Akismet since it’s run by the Wordpress devs). Akismet tends to have problems with false positives at first but it gets better over time. Just pick one and stick with it and you’ll be a lot happier. :)

If you need help installing either let me know by E-mail.

You know what, I was wondering about the same thing, since all it takes is human intervention to bypass the comment blacklist automation. :/

SpamKarma 2, huh? I seem to remember Akismet on my Plugins list, but I never bothered to activate it, since the other instruction required insertion of a line of code into the template and I don’t have ways to access it.

As for SpamKarma, yeah, I’ll let you know.

Oh, and in case you forgot (in one way or another), my version of WP is still at the 2.1.x branch. I need the upgrade.

Mate, I recommend you to upgrade your wordpress. It does save a lot of headache, I reckon.
