“Kyon”
Let’s face it.
Life, as we know it, has been fashioned by our Creator before the exact moment in time we were born. We are made to interact with one another, develop our skills, personalities, reputation and what not to the best of our abilities. Basically, we are to hone our selves in the most perfect way we can.
Faced with issues on all fronts, from the trivial to the necessary to the crucial, somehow we struggle in our own way break free from restrain and fashion our lives our way. As such, we are creating our own identity.
This anime touches lightly on the issue.
Haruhi herself never discovers this possibility even if it’s just under her nose. Her desire to bring fun to her own life inadvertently changes the other person’s outlook on life, not being ordinary by society’s standards. Kyon1 (not his real name) begins to ponder about these chain of events, starting from his own suggestion that Haruhi create her own club if she finds the existing ones lacking in the fun factor. With an array of characters unordinary2 by anyone other than Haruhi’s standards congregating around the one person who willed it to happen, and Kyon himself an acting observer, it’s as though there’s a valuable lesson being taught here.
“Why go around looking for extraordinary ideas and events, when they are actually appearing in your ordinary life?”
Now what if you do have that capability to create your own world, your own surroundings, you own environment, on your own terms, your own will? Will you be abusing such gifts to your own vested interest, or will you utilize it to the benefit of something or someone other than yourself? The decision rests in your hands.
Notes:
1Kyon’s real name was never revealed, neither in the anime nor in the novel
2Definition of the word Unordinary
